Robinson R22 FAQ
What is the R22 best for?
The R22 Beta II is the industry’s most popular primary trainer. It’s a light, responsive two-seat helicopter with the lowest hourly cost, which makes it the most affordable way to earn your certificate and build hours.
How much does R22 training cost?
Training is billed at our hourly rates for dual, solo, and ground instruction, so your total depends on how many hours you need to reach proficiency. Since every student progresses differently, we’ll put together a personalized estimate for you, and financing options are available to help.
What are the R22 hourly rates?
$400 per hour dual with an instructor, $315 per hour solo, and $85 per hour for ground instruction. All flight rates are “wet,” so they include the aircraft, fuel, and your instructor.
How many hours will I need in the R22?
The FAA Part 61 minimum for a Private Pilot Helicopter certificate is 40 total flight hours, including 20 dual and 10 solo, plus 20 hours of ground. Adding a helicopter rating as an existing pilot requires a minimum of 30 flight hours. Most students train a bit beyond the minimums.
Can I add a helicopter rating in the R22?
Yes. If you already hold an airplane or other pilot certificate, the R22 is the most economical way to add a helicopter category rating, since it requires fewer hours and has our lowest hourly rate. Reach out and we’ll build an estimate based on your experience.
Do you offer financing for R22 training?
Yes. If you already hold an airplane or other pilot certificate, the R22 is the most economical way to add a helicopter category rating, at around $13,000 to $14,500.
